In NSW, you are eligible for a permit if you cannot walk because of permanent or temporary loss of use of one or both legs, or other permanent medical or physical condition. You are also eligible if your physical condition is detrimentally affected as a result of walking 100 metres, you need to use crutches, a walking frame, callipers, scooter, wheelchair or other similar mobility aid. Applicants who have an intellectual, psychiatric or cognitive impairment must meet at least one of the above eligibility criteria to be considered eligible.

Start an application online, download a form or get one from a Service NSW centre. Get a medical report and check if you need a new photo for your permit – you may be able to use one that Service NSW already has on file. Submit your permit at a service centre or online.

Individuals with neurological and behavioural conditions such as autism only qualify if they meet one of the physical criteria.
