Policies
All organisations need up-to-date policies and procedures

Why clear policies and processes matter
Having clear policies and processes in place is essential for organisations with responsibilities relating to the safe transport of people with disabilities and medical conditions. They provide a foundation for best practice and support effective organisational risk management, ensuring that safety and accountability are embedded at every level.
MACA’s model policies reflect best practice and national standards and provide practical guidance. They are designed to be readily adopted by organisations employing MACA Certified Professionals.
By embedding these policies, organisations:
- Ensure a consistent and safe approach to motor vehicle transport, in line with best practice.
- Support staff to meet professional and legal obligations with confidence.
- Strengthen trust with clients and the community by demonstrating a commitment to safety and accountability.

Our model policies
MACA has developed three model policies, which are included our training courses and available to MACA trained professionals in MACAhub Pro.
Buckle Cover Model Policy
This model policy sets out best practice considerations for organisations with staff prescribing child restraint and seatbelt buckle covers for vehicle passengers. It includes a list of child restraint and seatbelt buckle covers and the legal requirements for use in each state and territory.
Extended Crotch Strap Model Policy
This policy provide guidance for organisations supplying extended crotch straps to support children travelling in hip spica cast or brace. It includes FAQs for prescribers and parents.
Modified Australian Standard Child Restraints additional padding model policy
This policy provides guidance for organisations involved in modifying Australian standard child restraints. It includes a practice guide, legal requirements for use and FAQs.

Keeping your staff safe on the road
As travelling on our roads is a major cause of work-related injury and death, it is also recommended that organisations have policies and processes in place in line with Work Health & Safety obligations.
MACA’s Workplace Road Safety Leadership Course provides information about using vehicles as a workplace, the different types of risks associated with travelling on our roads, and how these risks can be managed.
The online course includes practical information, valuable resource links and guidance for developing and implementing an organisational road safety policy to help keep all people safe when using a vehicle as a workplace.
