Explore the different types of vehicle restraints and accessory devices

Seatbelts

Seatbelts are used on their own or with another vehicle restraint and/or accessory device. Correctly fitted seatbelts are designed to protect drivers and passengers in a crash.

Australian standard car seats

These types of car seats cater for children up to around 10-12 years of age and are available from mainstream stores.

Modified car seats

Modifying a car seat is when accessories are added, or changes are made to the restraint, that are not supplied by or included in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Special purpose car seats

There are range of products suitable for both children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions, independently assessed by AuSAP

Specialty harnesses and vests

There are a range of specialty harnesses/vests to support postural and behavioural needs.
