New South Wales

In New South Wales, specific requirements apply to medical exemptions from seatbelt rules and challenging a fine.

Before travel
  • Obtain a medical certificate signed by a doctor stating that the person is exempt because of a medical condition or disability.
  • Submit the certificate to Transport for NSW to register the exemption for camera enforcement proactively. A separate form is required for each vehicle the person travels in. This can be valid for 12 months.
  • Carry the certificate when travelling.
  • Renew the certificate before it expires.

If fined

Request a review by the deadline on the notice. Include the Transport for NSW medical exemption and relevant supporting documents.
